An update...Finally

Well here it is Feb 2013 and I haven't posted here since Sept 2011.

A friend of mine started a blog for a school project and that got me thinking.
It's time to dust off the cobwebs and update this puppy.

Speaking of puppy, Rebel is now two years old and doing fine. I noticed that the blog started to be mostly about my pets. That's understandable since I had recently lost Whiskey and adopted my new friend Rebel.
Well, as the blog subtitle says, this is a sharing experiment.
If the sharing takes the direction of pet stories...Well then so be it.

I am however going to make an honest attempt to re-direct the focus to share more experiences. And more pictures. So strap yourself in and hang on we're going for a ride!

Introducing "Rebel"....

I know this is probably a duplicate of an email or Facebook post, but I have this weird "need" to keep this blog in somewhat of an order. So here is the introduction to my new friend "Rebel".

Most people are aware of my preference for a certain "adult" beverage and the recent history of naming my dogs. ( Whiskey and Bailey) So now "Rebel" it is. Early indications lead me to believe the choice is appropriate. I think somewhere across the Rainbow River, Whiskey is laughing and thinking you are really going to miss me with this pup.

Rebel is an alumni of Wisconsin Humane Society - Ozaukee Campus. He and a litter mate were transfers from Tennessee. Thankfully, his litter mate was previously adopted or I might be "Blessed" with two of them. He is 7 months old, about 40 lbs and is a Aussie Shepard / Schnauzer mix. They say he'll get to be about 80lbs. (His paws may be pink but they are HUGE!) We met on 8/31/11. And I think Whiskey arranged it. Rebel seems to enjoy his furever home. (He keeps trying to taste all of it.)

Wild Mustangs of TRNP

A short while back ( May 12 - 17 ) I had the opportunity to join a group workshop put on by Outdoor Photo Workshops. It was a small group lead by Les Voorhis. When I say small I mean Les and three students. By the way TRNP stands for Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. Google that for more info. We spent 4 days gettin up at 3:30am and heading in to the park to locate and photograph bands of wild mustangs. What can I say it was fantastic!! Great photo ops, learned how to use my long lens better and made new friends. It don't get no better n dat, as they say. The slideshow below is just a sample. If you want to see more go to :

Another Update...

It's been two weeks and we went back to Pahle Clinic to have the sutures removed. It appears he has a good memory. Soon as we got into the clinic he headed for the door to leave. Guess he really prefer not to see those people. ;)
His hair is growing back just fine. But the surgical scar is something you would prefer not to be lookin at. I asked the technician if it should be bandaged. She said it wasn't required but if I wanted to cover it she suggested a T shirt. Ever try to put a T shirt on a 85 lb dog? 'Specially a three legged one? It's an experience to say the least. He looks kinda cool layin around in a Harley T shirt!

Whiskey ‘s news:

After months of tests etc "Whiskey" went in for surgery Friday.

To remove his cancerous growth and left front leg with it.

I decided he has to have every chance.

If I didn't do everything I could, I couldn't live with myself.

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Well it's been bout 2 months since the last post. The good news is that we've found cure for the malady that was plaguing Whiskey. After a few more visits to the Vet it was decided that a biopsy was needed. If you think that sounds expensive, you're right. But wasn't much other choice.
While the lab was working on his tests, I found a group on Facebook called "Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue". Just so happens a post on their page referred to sore just like Whiskey's.
The cure seemed to be a Zinc supplement. I mentioned this to the vet and a few days later the lab came to the same conclusion. Best part this stuff is available via the internet and it comes in powder and treats. Been about a month now and he's lookin as good as ever.

A "Whiskey" - tini???

A friend of mine sent me a picture of her little Chichuahua with a vet's protective collar on. She asked If I'd ever heard of a Dog-tini.

Wouldn't ya know it, shortly after, Whiskey had to have some tests done and they took skin samples. So he had to have a collar to protect that area.
Let me tell you he looks happier here than he ever was wearin that thing.

Two days into it and I left him alone while I met friends for adult beverages. When I came home he was trappped in the half bath. Apparently, he went to lay down in there as he sometimes does. When he tried to leave the collar caught on the door and closed it in front of him.

He was NOT happy!! He was all wet, toilet water I suppose. and not the kind that smells good. He was a mess, the room was a mess and the collar was 'most destroyed. Yet the damned thing was still half hangin round his neck. I have never seen a look on a dog that said he was happy to see me, while at the same time sayin where the hell have you been!!

I freed him from the room and then the collar. He ran straight for his water bowl. Guess you can't even drink from the toilet with that thing on. Then he ran round the room rubbin his head on the floor. Musta felt better. It's been a few days now of extra treats and walks, but I still get that "pissed off" look from him every now and then.

This is Whiskey.
Some say I rescued him, it's more likely mutual.
We met at Elmbrook Humane Society.
He is my best friend.
Thus, dogs and rescuing them is one of my passions.
Never buy a dog from a " Puppy Mill". They are inhumane and driven by profit.
Support your local Humane Society.
When you rescue you save two ways. You save an animals life and generally the adoption cost is less than acquiring a friend any other way.
